God's Geography

Long Island, New York

Our area of focus is the east coast of the United States:

And we're going to zoom in on Long Island, and New York City:

The extent of New York city is shown in light red below:

Long Island is separated from the mainland by Long Island Sound to the north, and the Hudson River to the west. Now let's flip Long Island upside down, and take a look at what it represents:

Long Island is shaped like a giant locust!

The front pairs of legs are represented by the 'forearms' (as it were). Here's a larger version:

Long-horned locust

Why is Long Island shaped like a locust? I believe we are to focus on the locust-people, and I think we can assume that there are many in this region. Locusts, in the Bible, are symbols of the enemy. There are two great examples of this. One is in the book of Revelation where the locusts are a plague of evil angels in chapter 9:

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

I believe these locusts are the fallen angels who are coming with Satan to deceive the entire world (Revelation 12:7-9; 2nd Thessalonians 2:4). But if we know who they are, they can't deceive us.

The other example is in the book of Joel where the locusts are an army of men that God sends against His land.

1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. 2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? 3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. 4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

These are all locusts, just with different names. That they are sent by God is revealed in chapter 2:

25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, My great army which I sent among you.

The challenge is to figure out who the locusts are. Then their devastating habits won't affect us as much.

In closing I would like to note that the locust's hind leg is extended as if leaping through the air. With this in mind, let's zoom out, and take a look at Cape Cod as well.

To me, Cape Cod looks like a giant grasshopper leg. Let's move it over to Long Island, rotate it 25 degrees, and see if it fits on the body of the locust:

It fits perfectly!

I believe this was done so that we would connect the Cape Cod area with Long Island, and we'll expand on that in a study on Massachusetts. I think it will involve the following Scriptures from Revelation 9:
